"Suspended in Waves" 2019
Joie Villeneuve was born in Minnesota, USA and received a BFA from the Minneapolis College of Art & Design. After spending a decade in New Mexico, being swooned by the landscape and light, she immigrated to Perth, Western Australia and now considers this home. In 2017 she was included in the book, “Artists of Perth”. In addition to regular gallery exhibitions her work is included in numerous private and corporate collections across the world.
"Surveying the Depths" 2019
This current work is an exploration of Australia from the time it was an ancient sea bed, abundant with sea life, to today. Many layers and textural surface marks beg to be touched; hands on the earth. There are elements of collage deeply embedded, scratched and scrawled surface drawing and printed images layered in amongst the paint. The symbols include graphic, stylised, printed and abstracted shapes representational of buoys. They are metaphorically guiding and mooring our country to something greater.
